We are currently looking for a Vice President of Human Resources to join our Leadership team in Canton, Ohio.

The Vice President of Human Resources provides leadership, strategic direction and oversight for Human Resources.  Works in concert with other Leadership Team members to develop and guide strategic direction, develop tactical plans and assists in the leadership of the agency.  As a member of the Leadership Team, participates in meetings of the Board of Directors and various Board Committees.  Responsible for developing, mentoring and coaching direct reports in the areas of human resources, payroll, safety and loss prevention.  Responsible for operating effectively across functional boundaries, building and sustaining external and internal relationships.  Internal Consultant to the President/CEO.



  • Provide overall strategic and operational human resource leadership to the organization.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of human resource policies and procedures including recruitment, selection, retention, employee training and development, performance management, compensation, employee benefits, safety, employee assistance, legal compliance, employment practices and procedures.
  • Serve as internal consultant to Goodwill's CEO, leadership team, supervisors and employees on human resource, payroll, safety and loss prevention issues that affect performance and business relationships. Serve as internal consultant to managers and supervisors in employee situations in which discipline is joint responsibility of the VP of Human Resources and employee supervisor.
  • Develop and lead a team of human resource professionals with a goal of earning a high level of credibility as an effective and responsive internal consulting group.
  • Foster a celebratory and customer service focused workplace consistent with the values and mission of Goodwill.
  • Provide leadership in the critical area of recruitment by developing the most creative and cost-effective ways of generating high-quality candidates in the marketplace to Goodwill. Assist in the development of long-term relationships with organizations and individuals that will enhance the talent flow towards Goodwill.  Working with managers and supervisors, provide guidance in recruiting and hiring the employee candidates who can best contribute to the success and growth of the company.
  • Responsible for advising management to ensure company compliance with all federal, state and local laws related to employee benefits, compensation, employment and training. Remain current with changes in human resource and employment law and manage company relationships with state and local regulatory agencies.
  • Provide strategic oversight for employee benefit programs including medical, dental, life, and disability insurance, supplemental medical, 403(b) plan, Personal Annual Leave (PAL) and sick leave processing, and unemployment compensation.
  • Participate in community activities, boards, etc. to cultivate relationships with organizations and community leaders.
  • Co-chair CARF compliance efforts ensuring CARF standards are followed and agency obtains recertification, as applicable.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a highly effective orientation program that emphasizes the critical importance and value of welcoming and integrating new employees into the Goodwill culture.
  • Oversee human resource record keeping related to new hires, employee reviews, promotions, transfers, separations and exit interviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President/CEO.

  • 7-10 years of experience in human resources or a related field.
  • Ability to express ideas through the use of words in developing policies/programs or supervising the work of others.

  • Plan and direct work of others. Provide strategic oversight to departments under his her direction.

Several exempt positions including Director(s) and Supervisor(s) in HR, Safety and Loss Prevention.



Communicate effectively and develop teamwork within the agency.



Represent the agency in a positive way to the community.




Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Administration preferred or related degree (Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, Communications) required.



Professional Human Resources certification desired.  Must have valid driver's license and automotive insurance.  Must regularly provide the agency with proof of valid automotive insurance. 



The majority of time is spent in a general office environment.  Employee may occasionally be exposed to production, retail, warehouse and other settings.  This position requires limited travel.  Must be able to perform physical requirements of the position including but not limited to: inside, sedentary work; frequent forward, horizontal reach at desk; occasional standing, walking approximately 60 feet, stair climbing, stooping/bending; lift/carry up to 20 lbs.; infrequent crouching/squatting.



General office and phone system.
