COMPASS Inc., is currently seeking a full-time Victim Advocate Supervisor to provide support and advocacy to all those affected by sexual violence and ensure that services are accessible to all survivors.  This position will be based out of our COMPASS office in New Philadelphia, Ohio.  

COMPASS, an affiliate of Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio, provides services to all survivors of rape and sexual abuse - women, children, men - and their loved ones in Carroll, Tuscarawas and Stark Counties.  Their programs include crisis intervention and advocacy, and education and prevention. 

Our Victim Advocate Supervisor will:

  1. Assume primary responsibility of the accompaniment and assistance of the victim and/or co-victims (such as parents, custodians, legal guardians, spouses) throughout the law enforcement and judicial process, including medical exams.
  2. Provide referrals and on-going follow-up for the victim.
  3. Recruit, hire and train on-call advocates in compliance with personnel policies and procedures.  Manage and develop staff while maintaining personnel records in accordance with all privacy standards and laws. 
  4. Complete all necessary documentation and reporting forms as required by the agency and funding sources.
  5. Develop and implement culturally sensitive materials and programs to minority populations within the service area.  Conduct educational presentations as requested.
  6. Ensure that victims from minority populations are able to access the services provided by COMPASS.
  7. Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and practices, as well as, safety/security regulations.
  8. Provide coverage on the 24-hour crisis hotline and provide hospital advocacy as needed.
  9. Maintain client confidentiality of persons served.
  10. Carry out other assignments as required by the Executive Director consistent with goals and purpose of the agency.

Our ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about the effects of sexual violence on the victim, the family and the community.  They will carry on our mission to promote the healing of individuals impacted by sexual violence and to create social change.  This individual will also support and carry out our vision of a community where all people can live free of sexual violence. 

Specific Requirements:

  • Ability to perform basic computer functions including the use of the Internet, Microsoft Word and email.
  • Experience in working with victims of crime and/or sexual assault.
  • Knowledgeable about the effects of sexual assault on the victim, the family and the community.
  • Exhibit concern for people in an effective way to gain their trust and confidence.
  • Form opinions and make decisions based upon knowledge, judgment and experience.
  • Empathize with the feelings of others and have desire to be of help.
  • Ability to gather and record data accurately.
  • Organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks with frequent changes.


EDUCATION:  Bachelor's Degree in social work, human services or related field preferred or a minimum of 3 years of experience.

WORK CONDITIONS:  Ability to work with moderate supervision.  Must be able to perform physical requirements of the position including but not limited to inside sedentary work.  Frequent forward, horizontal reach at desk and occasional stair climbing, stooping/bending, lift/carry up to 20 pounds and walk approximately 60 feet.  Occasional standing during court hearings and medical exams.

EQUIPMENT:  General office equipment and phone system.

CERTIFICATION:  Must have a valid driver's license and automobile insurance. Must regularly provide the agency with proof of valid automobile insurance. Employees who utilize an agency vehicle must submit to a BMV check.

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week with benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, Disability, Life Insurance and Retirement.
